Wendy Shanks  CIM, ICD.D


Wendy has worked in the financial services field for over 22 years, offering a wide range of unbiased financial consulting services to Trustees of First Nation Investment Trusts.

Working as a financial advisor for major financial institutions, Wendy specialized in investment management for high net worth clients. Her clients included non-profit societies, foundations, government agencies and First Nations. These accounts ranged in size from $1 million to $60 million.

Wendy is involved in projects with First Nations that include; writing investment policy documents, strategic planning, investment manager search and selection and ongoing review of investment managers, as well as working closely with Trustees on quarterly investment report reviews and overall investment portfolio and Trust governance.

Wendy currently sits as a Director and Chair of the HR Committee of the Yukon Energy Corporation Board as well as sitting on the Audit Committee and Planning and Governance Committees.

Qualifications & Education

Wendy holds a B.Sc. from Queens University, as well as the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation. She also holds the ICD.D designation and is a certified member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Wendy Shanks also served as Chair and CEO of the Yukon Utilities Board (YUB) for 5 years. Prior to assuming this role, she was Vice Chair of the YUB for 5 years. Through this experience of serving on a quasi-judicial board combined with her financial services background and education Wendy is able to bring a detailed understanding of the governance procedures and due diligence requirements for Trustees of First Nation Trusts in the management of investment decisions and Trust governance.

Wendy has been an invited presenter for: the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association (AFOA), the CYFN SGS 2012 Trusts and Investments Conference as well as the 2012, 2013, 2014 Yukon First Nation Trust Investment Symposium.
